Celebrating Our Heritage and Embracing the Future

Since its establishment in 1963, St Paul’s Catholic College has been a cornerstone of Catholic education in Mid Sussex.

From its humble beginnings in Haywards Heath to its current vibrant presence in Burgess Hill, the college has continually evolved, guided by its mission to inspire a living faith with hope and love.

Foundations in Faith and Learning

1963

St Paul’s Secondary School opened its doors in Haywards Heath with 132 students and 8 teachers, under the leadership of its first headteacher, Mr Derek Grindley.

1964

The official opening ceremony was held, marking the beginning of a tradition of academic excellence and spiritual growth.

1972

Transitioned to a fully comprehensive school, reflecting the changing educational landscape and the school’s commitment to inclusivity.

Growth and Development

1986

Mr John Flower became the second headteacher, overseeing significant developments, including the formal recognition of the Sixth Form in 1989.

2004

The college relocated to a state-of-the-art campus in Burgess Hill, enhancing facilities and accommodating a growing student body.

2005

Achieved Sports College status, emphasising the importance of physical education alongside academic pursuits.

Academic Excellence and Innovation

2013

Designated as a National Teaching School and National Support School, highlighting its role in leading educational innovation and teacher training.

2022

Converted to academy status under the Bosco Catholic Education Trust, ensuring continued growth and adherence to Catholic educational values.

2023

Received an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted, reaffirming the college’s commitment to excellence in education.

Celebrating 60 Years of St Paul's

In September 2023, the college celebrated its 60th anniversary, bringing together students, staff, alumni, and the wider community. The festivities included Mass, school tours, music, and sporting events, honouring the college’s enduring legacy and vibrant community spirit.
