The School Sports Partnership programme is designed to increase the percentage of school children who spend at least two hours each week on high quality physical education (PE) and school sport to 75% by 2006. This target has since been increased and extended to 85% by 2008.
The Partnership works in seven key areas to increase participation in high quality:
- Physical Education
- Out of School Hours Learning
- Daily Physical Activity
- Competition and Performance
- Improving attainment and achievement
- Improving attitude, behaviour and attendance
- Increasing participation in community sport
The School Sports Partnership is a key mechanism for schools to achieve:
- Healthy Schools Standards
- Ofsted Self- Evaluation
- Every Child Matters
- Extended Services
As a partnership, our target for summer 2007 was 77% of all the young people in Mid Sussex taking part in at least 2 hours of High Quality PE and sport each week. Our preliminary results indicate that we have achieved 88%!!!! This has been due to the hard work of all the team and the partners, including schools, local clubs, councils and leisure centres.
“88% is well in excess of last year’s national result of 80%. Let alone our own target and is a fantastic achievement”, says Lorraine Everard, the Partnership Development Manager.
