Professional Development Centre

St Paul’s Catholic College has undergone a revolution over the last five years! A revolution in learning and teaching, a revolution in facilities and amenities and a revolution in results!

The College, founded on gospel values, always places the holistic development of the child at the heart of all it does as evidenced in our successful designation as a specialist Sports College. We aim to empower children towards a healthy lifestyle leading to excellent learning and preparation for life in the modern world.

About The Centre

We are passionate about professional development. Equally in the past we  had been fed-up with training taking place out of College delivered by someone no longer in the classroom. As a consequence we look to maximise our training from the enormous strength and depth of talent, experience and enthusiasm that our staff team possess. This had led to phenomenal results for our students demonstrated by outstanding ‘headline’ figures underpinned with impressive value added. Our desire is to share some of what we do with other colleagues. We are not arrogant and we recognize that through the work of the professional centre we learn from those we work with. We know there are always things we should do to improve further and we are committed to continually looking to improve. One thing we are ‘bold’ about is that we will never become a coasting school.

Our Courses

St Paul’s had the fantastic opportunity to build a brand-new campus and senior members of staff grasped this ‘blank canvass’ opportunity to visit school nationwide to glean ‘nuggets of best practice’. The building, curriculum and innovative e-learning we have today in our College is testament to this research and we aim to reflect these aspects of our learning in our courses.

Meet The Staff

John Flower (Headteacher) has successfully led St Paul’s for many years. It was his vision and commitment that drove the College towards the fantastic new campus it boasts now and the e-learning firmly embedded throughout the curriculum. John has a wealth of knowledge and experience in capital projects and is passionate about the benefits e-learning has on the motivation and engagement of our students. (There is more than one computer for each student at St Paul’s established via our e-learning foundation).

Rob Carter (Deputy Headteacher) has overall responsibility for Learning & Teaching at St. Paul’s which encompasses the interface of Accelerated Learning and e-learning. Rob has been involved as a consultant for the SSAT and ALITE (Accelerated Learning in Training and Education). He has also just completed a secondment through the SSAT Leading Edge project looking at “Raising Achievement” in a partner school. He is committed to a teaching policy which is transparent, dynamic and student-focused. A recent OFSTED commented on the exceptionally high percentage of very good to excellent lessons observed. He believes that students are motivated by having a “rich diet in the classroom” and is driven to ensure this happens.

Andy Lowe (Director of E-Learning, Assistant Headteacher) has designed and created a fantastic kinaesthetic learning environment which is indicative of his passion for interactive learning. Andy has a detailed knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments and is continually working with our e-learning technician to create resources for the classroom and to extend leaning at home. He is currently developing the Learning Gateway and looking to empower parents to have a fuller understanding of learning.

Simon Adams (Director of E-Teaching, AST) is an exemplary SMART board practitioner. He truly ensures that the interactive whiteboard is interactive! Simon has led colleagues to similarly high standards through his engaging and accessible style. Simon’s department is the highest performing History department in County. He is committed to making sure that technology enhances what actually happens in the classroom.
