Learning Support Database

The Learning Support database is a sophisticated tool designed to assist SENCOs, Learning Support Assistants and teaching staff to continuously monitor and evaluate the progress of students with special educational needs across the curriculum.

The database empowers support staff and teachers by allowing them to share their observations and experiences of SEN students with other members of staff, helping them to identify problem areas early on and highlighting students who have made significant improvements.

The powerful built-in reporting features of the database enable staff to establish trends in performance and behaviour, enabling them to make more informed decisions about the most appropriate form of action to take.

Over time, the database will establish a historical record of performance and behaviour for each SEN student, useful for meetings with parents, annual IEP reviews and staff briefings.

By sharing reports, Learning Support Assistants and teaching staff can work together to deliver a carefully co-ordinated and consistent approach to improving the attainment and behaviour of individuals.

Case Study

The Learning Support database was developed by our in-house Web & E-Learning Materials Developer and has been in regular use by the Learning Support Department for over 2 years.

Each LSA is given one period per week where they are expected to type up the previous week’s reports into the database, documenting their students’ attitudes, progress, behaviour and the level of support they had to provide. The SENCO and Senior LSA spend around one hour per week reviewing all of the reports created by the LSAs in the last week, highlighting any issues that they identify by adding notes to the records. Any observations which need to be followed up are printed and raised at their weekly departmental meeting.
