Back at the Beeb
The Media and Film Department were fortunate once again to be invited to the BBC
for a tour of their radio and television facilities as part of the BTEC Level 3
course run in the Sixth Form.

Three students, Alexson Matanguihan, James Palmer
and Craig Mallon went with teacher Keith Perera on December 2nd for an exclusive
behind the scenes experience at BBC Radio 6, Radio 2 and then later a tour of the
iconic Television Centre. At Radio 6, they watched a live show with Lauren Laverne
with a special session with rising British songstress Ellie Goulding. It was this
behind the scenes experience that was very exciting for all on the trip. At Television
Centre, they sat in awe in news room as stories flooded in from all over the world.
They observed the Alan Titchmarsh show being filmed where Keith Perera was particularly
pleased to see TV legend David Frost on the show.
This was the department’s second
BTEC visit to the BBC and this one was as successful as the first trip. Chris Wilson
was once again our host and his insider knowledge of the BBC was invaluable. The
students are working on a piece of video journalism for their coursework and Chris
was very helpful in giving them a sense of the purpose and function of the BBC as
a Public Service Broadcaster. Thanks again to Chris was making such a wonderful
trip possible.
