Top Link Festival 2008

St Paul’s Top Link Festival, sponsored by property developers Glenbeigh Ltd in Haywards Heath, was enjoyed by 80 primary school children in July. The festival was planned and run by the Year 10 Top Link leaders, who showed great maturity and leadership skills in preparing the day. The St Paul’s students had to choose the sports, invite the primary schools, prepare the rules and equipment and lead the young pupils around the activities. Each group had a country they were representing, and the festival had a Mini-Olympic feel.

Some of the events on the day were indoor javelin, boccia, 30m sprint, target throwing and short tennis. The sponsorship from Glenbeigh Ltd enable each country to wear colourful team t-shirts, and prizes to be purchased for the winning teams. Spain emerged victorious on the day, as they got the most points for teamwork, effort and performance.

The festival was part of the Mid-Sussex School Sports Partnership, which links primary and secondary schools in the area. The attending schools were St Josephs, St Wilfirds, Newick House and Court Meadow. A big thanks to all the primary school students who attended and performed to their best on the day, and special thanks to the superb Year 10 leaders:

  • Dave Barlow
  • Ebuni Jumaa
  • Becky Brown
  • Sam Bennett
  • JoJo Blunt
  • George Holah
  • Michael Uta
  • Dave Uden
  • Megan Massey
  • Helen Rutherford
