Year 8 Trip to Brighton University

On Thursday, June the 5th Year 8 visited Brighton University to view the work of technology degree students. The trip was fun and inspirational at the same time. The purpose of the trip was to help the year group enhance the ideas and ways they did their work.

There were many interesting creations at the university such as the “slinkaphonics” design. The design was just a long, metal slinky which was hung around the room. When you usually hit a metal slinky it makes a faint sound but this was amplified and distorted making the noise more dominant. This attracted lots of attention from all of the students because it was practical and appealing.

Other designs made you think about what they were, much like modern art. There was a chess board with holes in the board and panels that slid around. The idea was that normally chess is a game with many rules that were set but this let you push the boundaries make it a game with more freedom. There were a number of interactive products that attracted our attention.

It was a great trip that helped inspire the work of year 8.
