Eastbourne International Women’s Tennis Open

14 St Paul’s students went to the Women’s Open in Eastbourne, and witnessed a high standard of tennis in the sunshine.

Eastbourne International Women’s Tennis Open

The Open is one of the last major events for ladies before Wimbledon. The students could walk around the event, see the stars warming up and hear the players receiving tips from their coaches. One of the matches saw former world number 1 Amelie Mauresmo take on current number 17 in the world, Alize Cornet.

The powerful ground strokes and delicate net play of the athletes gave the students an idea of the performance required at the elite level.

Mauresmo won, and may go on to reclaim her number 1 title. Thanks to Miss Lee for organising the trip.
