Year 10 Cricket Against Oathall

The Year 10 team faced a strong Oathall side in a 16 over match. It was always going to be a highly competitive match and with the team missing all-rounders Jonny Pickering and Harry Cooper, and the wicket-keeping skills of George Martindale, it was made even harder. An injury to pace bowler Micheal Thorn did not help matters. St Paul’s opened the bowling with Jordan Martin and Matt Orlando firing from both ends. However after the Oathall batsmen settled in, they began to build a big total. A stumping was missed by the umpire, much to the amazement of Mark Hancock, but wickets did fall as the bowlers kept up the pressure. Oathall finished their innings with a healthy 150 runs.

St Paul’s chased Oathall’s total, with Matt Orlando, Jordan Martin and Mark Hancock batting well. Martin was stumped out of his crease and Orlando was retired at 25 after playing some good technical shots. Despite a late cameo from Charlie Howells, sending the ball flying to the boundary, we fell short of the the home sides run total.

Well played to the whole team, and good luck for the next match.

Mr Picknell
