A Recipe for Success at GCSE

I am writing to you at an important time in your son or daughter’s education. As you are aware they are currently working hard in their preparation for the SATs exams. This is a good opportunity for them to demonstrate and celebrate the learning that has taken place in Key Stage 3. We are confident that the hard work the students have put in and the support of staff will ensure they can all achieve their potential.

Following on from the SATS we are keen to build on the commitment shown by the students and spend time reflecting on what will ensure there is equal success at GCSE. We have spent time discussing this with students and work on skills for learning but we would also like to invite you to be part of this preparation.

We have planned to host an evening reflecting on what ensures success at GCSE. This will be an evening where you will be given some key practical advice on what your child will need in Key Stage 4. This evening will be on 14th May 2008 from 7.00-8.00 p.m. There will be input from students, parents and staff in order to share strategies to ensure that the start to GCSE is an exciting prospect but also one that is positive and successful.

If you are planning on attending please email the school office so we can prepare appropriately. We look forward to working in partnership with you to support success at GCSE. All research suggests that parental engagement is the single most significant factor to raise achievement. I would like to thank you in advance for your support and commitment to your children’s learning.
