8 Aside Cricket at St Paul’s

It was a beautiful summers afternoon on Tuesday when St Paul’s hosted the Mid-Sussex 8 a side cricket tournament. The glorious playing conditions made an excellent event with some fantastic batting and bowling on display from talented young cricketers from Oakmeeds, Oathall and Downlands schools.

The tournament was arranged on 3 pitches across the astro turf with each team playing each other once in a league system. The matches were based around a form of pairs cricket with shortened overs and boundaries. Each batting pair faced 2 overs of 4 balls and lost 3 runs if they were out.

Mike Rutherford was a star bastman, playing some excellent strokes off the back foot, while Anesu, Peter Heppell and Antonio limited the runs in the field with James Massey and Dean bell producing some quality bowling throughout the tournament However, the short games and some poor running between the wickets cost us runs and we finished 4th out of the 6 schools.

Overall it was a great tournament giving pupils plenty of time to play. We look forward to the next test against Oathall in a couple of weeks.
