Career Guidance

Information and guidance on careers, training, further and higher education is delivered in partnership with Connexions. The careers education programme is an integral part of Social Studies.

Connexions

The college’s Connexions Careers Adviser is Katrina King, who is in college every Monday. Students are allocated individual interviews during KS4 and any student may book an interview at the LRC desk. There is a drop-in session during Monday lunchtime for students who would prefer this to a full interview.

Careers Information in the LRC

Open 7.45 – 5.00 (Term Time)

Resources include:

  • current prospectuses for further and higher education, including universities.
  • books and leaflets (which may be photocopied free of charge) on a wide range of careers, jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities
  • guides to subject choices, college choices, job interview and application processes.

Pathfinder and Kudos

The college subscribes to two on-line careers guidance programmes, Pathfinder + Higher Education and Kudos.  Both programmes include questionnaires to help match interests with possible career routes, training and university/college courses.  Information on accessing these programmes is in the Careers section on the VLE.

Work Experience

7-11 July 2008

Students in Years 10 and 12 undertake a week’s work experience with a business or service organization.  Students prepare fur the week during Social Studies.

The UCAS website contains information on applying to universities and colleges of higher education. The site includes details of all courses and institutions within the UK with links to the websites of individual institutions. All applications are made through the website.
